I am a prior member of the Board of Education. During my previous terms, I served as vice-chairperson for 4 years; chaired the business & facilities sub-committee and served on the policy and personnel sub-committees. I am a current 16 year member of the Municipal Building Committee, serving as chairperson for the last 10 years.
Professionally, I am an Architect licensed in NY & CT who has been involved in the design and construction of public & private school facilities since 1996. I am currently completing certification as a Building Evaluator in the California Safety Assessment Program (SAP) which utilizes volunteers to assist local governments in safety evaluation of their built environment in an aftermath of a disaster. I am a NYSDOL Asbestos Designer, and member of the International Society of Educational Planning and also a former EPA Lead Risk Assessor, NYSDOL Asbestos Inspector and Management Planner.
I have always had the steadfast position that national political parties have no place in the elections of local Boards of Education. As stewards of our future, candidates should be selected absent of party affiliation. They should be selected based upon their willingness to support education. Local Boards of Education are here to ensure that we provide school programs, staff and facilities to meet the educational needs of all students. Our primary concern should be in providing the best resources and environment for each student in our educational program. More money does not translate into a better education; we need to manage our financial and personnel resources in a prudent manner but that should always be done with student interest at the forefront.
